Summer Ball Minimize

The club's Summer Ball, held at the clubhouse on Saturday 3 July, proved a popular event.  Over 60 members and guests enjoyed a splendid dinner and the entertainment which followed in the form of a casino and dancing with live singers including our own Helen Cripps.  The weather was kind to us as well so that we could enjoy the beauty of the lake late into the evening.  It was a great evening and a credit to all who who worked so hard to make sure the event was a success.

Dredging Minimize

The long promised dredging operation was completed by the beginning of May. The result is an easier passage out of the harbour, with much of the bank dividing the practice pond from the main lake significantly lowered. The narrows between buoys 11 and 6 have been widened and most of the bank near buoys 5 and 6 has been lowered. The tip of the island to the left (viewed from the clubhouse) of buoy 8 has also been reduced.

St Francis Special Needs School based in Lincoln are seen here enjoying sailing in our Access Dinghies as part of the Sailability programme, which we launched last year. Sessions were so successful that the school has this year joined the club as group member and enthusiastic students are enjoying midweek sailing sessions.  The students gain sailing skills which count towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Instructors Brian Rennie, Bernard Singleton and Martin Appleby, and Senior Instructor Trevor Mapleston, have gained valuable experience working with St Francis School and hope to encourage other individuals or groups to have a go at sailing at Girton SC in the future.

"ACE" club from Gainsborough Minimize

On Saturday the 12th June 2010, we hosted the "ACE" Sports Club from Gainsborough which gives opportunities to disabled youngsters from the area. Around 25 youths and their supporters came along to try dinghy sailing. They enjoyed trips out in our Laser16 and Coble dinghies and some had the extra excitement of sailing themselves in the smaller Access dinghies, which are a safe introduction to sailing used as part of our Sailability training.

Feedback from Pete McDonnell on behalf of ACE Sports Club is that the day was very enjoyable and they looked forward to their next visit.
