The last day in April 2017 held our annual Majestic pursuit trophy (round 2 of the pursuit series).
With the wind getting close to 20mph, and gusts up to 30mph, the weather gave the sailors some interesting conditions.
Alan Bishop, our race officer of the day, set a great course giving all the competitors good reaches and beats.
Defending champion Steve Bishop (Solo 5649) held a good lead until he made a mistake causing him to capsize in front the clubhouse. This gave the spectators a good laugh and allowed Eddie Johnson (Supernova 706) to take the advantage and the lead. Eddie held on to take the win while Steve Bishop had to settle for second. Marcus Shaw and his son Joel (Xenon 4974) took a well deserved 3rd place.
With the wind was increasing and decreasing through the race, Steve took advantage of the changing conditions to pull out a good lead, and the win, while Eddie suffered an equipment failure which stopped him catching Steve. He held on to take 2nd while Marcus took another solid 3rd.
In-between races 2 and 3 Eddie managed to get his boat sorted ready for a shoot out for the Majestic trophy.
Eddie was closing on Steve with 30mins to go, showing Eddie was favourite to win. However, it was not to be as Eddie's repair failed, forcing the Supernova sailor to retire. This allowed Steve to relax a little and take the race win and the take a trophy.
Thank you to Alan Bishop (OOD) Steve Hawksworth and crew (rescue) and Ruth Edwards on galley.
Also a thank you to all the competitors to make the day a success.
